The Enhance Hamilton County Foundation celebrated the power of giving back and the impact that it is positively making
throughout Hamilton County at their 3rdAnnual Night of Philanthropy on November 13, 2018, held at the Backcountry Winery in Stratford.
Over 60 people were in attendance at the event that celebrated and honored both current fund holders and those recognized as Friends of the Foundation and honored them for having a passion for giving back.
Enhance Hamilton County Foundation Development Director Darcy Swon, welcomed the guests and shared information on the impact that the Foundation is creating by working with charitable donors and organizations throughout the county including: 26 funds currently under management, over $2.4 million in assets under management, and over $1.4 million granted out since 2005.
Joe Sorenson, Vice President of Affiliate Relations Community Foundation of Greater Des Moines, shared some comments with the guests in attendance about the impact that the Enhance Hamilton County Foundation is making throughout Hamilton County by working with charitable donors and through their grant program. He added that the Enhance Hamilton County Foundation is leading the way for other affiliates throughout the state with their progressive grant making and their support for projects that have a larger, sustainable impact throughout Hamilton County.
In addition to the grants that the Foundation is most well-known for, the Foundation also works with charitable donors on establishing funds to allow them the freedom to develop a giving strategy that is right for them by providing the resources to accomplish their goals. “We are here to assist charitable donors with resources to help them make their charitable gifts go farther,“ said Swon. “Local donors have utilized the funds under our management to support local causes such as Wilson Brewer Park Foundation, Pheasants Forever, Youth & Shelter Services of Hamilton County, Upper Des Moines Opportunity, Webster City Community Theatre, and Arts R Alive to name just a few.”
Fund holders that were in attendance and recognized included: Kendall Young Library; Mary Jo Johnson and family (Mary Jo & Marvin D Johnson Family Charitable Fund); Webster City Community Theatre; Briggs Woods Conference Center; Dean and Adele Bowden (Bowden Family Fund); Stacie Jacobson (Doug “Jake” Jacobson Wildlife Fund; and Brian Holt (Brian and Nancy Holt Charitable Fund.
The following guests were identified as Friends of the Foundation and recognized for their philanthropic work throughout Hamilton County: Joel and Debbie Peterson (Webster City); Greg Carlson (Stratford); Doug Bailey (Webster City); Gerry Gourley (Webster City); Trudy Anderson (Webster City), and Leah Maass (Ellsworth).
In addition, the following businesses were honored for embodying the spirit of giving back to the communities they serve throughout Hamilton County: Availa Bank, Webster City Custom Meats, Van Diest Medical Center, and Stratford Mutual Telephone Company.
