Enhance Hamilton County Foundation issues challenge to fill local food pantries before holidays

tree option5The Enhance Hamilton County Foundation has once again issued a challenge to Hamilton County residents to raise money for local food pantries to help fill the shelves heading into the holidays. The challenge will run from October 15 – November 10, 2015, and funds received will be matched dollar for dollar up to $2,000 by the Enhance Hamilton County Foundation.

To participate in the food pantry challenge, send your check or drop off your cash contributions to: Darcy Swon, Enhance Hamilton County Foundation, 501 Bank Street Suite 1, Webster City, Iowa 50595. Checks should be made out to: Enhance Hamilton County Foundation with the name of the food pantry to be supported listed in the memo line. If no food pantry is indicated, it will be assigned to one.

Hamilton County has five food pantries: Upper Des Moines Opportunity (Webster City) serves Hamilton County, has income eligibility and is open from 9 am – noon, Monday – Thursday; Trinity Lutheran Church Food Pantry (Webster City) serves the county with no eligibility and is open 2 pm to 3 pm, Monday, Tuesday and Friday; St. Paul Lutheran Church Food Pantry (Webster City); The Lord’s Cupboard Bethesda Lutheran Church (Jewell) serves the South Hamilton Area, is open Monday at 5:30 pm and has no eligibility; and the Stratford Food Pantry is open once a month on Monday night with no eligibility criteria. All four-food pantries serve an estimated 160 families each month.

The Food Pantry Challenge that was held this summer brought in $7,121 and was distributed to food pantries throughout Hamilton County by Enhance Hamilton County Board members. Checks distributed included: $3,018.88 to The Lord’s Cupboard Bethesda Lutheran Church (Jewell); $2,706.93 to Trinity Lutheran Church Food Pantry (Webster City); $695.27 to the Stratford Food Pantry (Stratford); $398.63 to Upper Des Moines Opportunity (Webster City); and $301.29 to St. Paul Lutheran Church Food Pantry (Webster City).
